Community arts pilot projects 2021

Six, artist-led, community arts pilot projects, inspired by a ‘Fellfoot Tapestry’ theme, were commissioned for 2021. This pilot programme supported visual artists, sound artists, photographers, and performing artists to work with two hundred and twenty residents living in the Fellfoot Forward area between August and December 2021. The pilot projects were:

Nana Bainbridge’s Pockets – Pull Outs and Hiding Places by The Clifford Movement

Improvising the landscape by BlueJam Arts

Discovering nature through art by Lionel Playford

Green to gold – aspects of autumn by Alex Jakob-Whitworth

Listening as a device by John Coburn and Tim Shaw

Fellfoot Tapestry – the people and place by Simon Whalley

Insights and learning from the six arts pilot projects included:

  • 47% of polled community participants stated their participation in an arts project is something they “rarely do” or “have never done before”.
  • 89% of polled participants stated the project “inspired them to explore and think about the local natural environment”
  • 68% of polled participants stated they were “inspired to think more about the places in which they live”.
