Explore 8,000 years in Cumbria

The online launch event of ‘Uncovering the Past‘, on Thu 29 April, took a journey deep into Cumbria’s past to unlock some of the hidden gems of this remarkable landscape and reveal the stories of some of the people who have lived here over the last 8,000 years. From prehistoric standing stones to quaint medieval villages, there’s plenty to discover.

Co-hosted by North Pennines AONB Partnership and our partner organisation, DigVentures – a team of archaeologists who organise archaeological digs and heritage events that anyone can be part of – the session included:
An insider’s view from archaeologists and local historians about why this area is so special
A short tour of the ancient hidden landmarks that you can go out and explore
A preview of the ‘Uncovering the Past’ events you can get involved with this summer – from archaeological digs and surveys of ancient stone circles, to talks, and heritage trails
