SUMMARY:Our country lives - art installation
DESCRIPTION:‘Our Country Lives’ is an outdoor art installation at Bowlees Visitor Centre in Teesdale. Produced by Joanne Coates\, it is a culmination of over 50 young people’s work to explore issues that are important to them through photography\, collage\, writing and drawing. \nThe resulting work is a unique insight into the everyday life of young people in rural communities. It offers a rare glimpse through the eyes of the youth. The participants were encouraged to make pictures of what is important to them. Joanne is an award-winning artist based in the rural north of England\, her work focuses on rurality and class. \nPhotographs taken by participants in the project have been printed on mesh and strung between trees. The technique allows natural light to filter through the images. The installation will be on-site from Saturday 23 April to Tuesday 21 June at Bowlees Visitor Centre. Car parking is available at Bowlees. For more information on the centre’s opening times and facilities please see our website. \nWith thanks to the landowner Raby Estates. Thanks also to the co-creators from Bowes Hutchinson Primary School\, Cotherstone Primary School\, Teesdale Secondary School and Upper Teesdale Agricultural Support Services Youth Club. \nShare your thoughts and pictures through our social media channels using #OurCountryLives\, #TeesSwale and #northpenninesaonb \nProduced as part of the Tees-Swale: naturally connected programme. Tees-Swale is delivered by the North Pennines AONB Partnership and the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and is funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Managed by Beam\, Creatively Connected is supported using public funding by The National Lottery through Arts Council England. \n

I spend my time creating works of art using natural materials and going on adventures in the most beautiful northern England.\nSurrounded by pristine shorelines\, vast woodlands and roaming hillsides inspiration is all around me.\nI became a bushcrafter at the age of 5 when my father a British army chef began teaching me survival and bushcraft skills.Later in my life I became seriously ill and while recovering I returned to my wilderness ways and the skills my father had taught me.\nI believe nature is a powerful healer\, not only for the body\, but our souls and minds too. \nBushlore keeps traditional skills alive with the hope of inspiring people to reconnect with our natural world. So please come along on my Bushlore adventure and be inspired. \nLya Vollering\nI am a gartist\, that is a gardener and an artist. I am interested in how we link social justice with environmental justice. Above all\, how do we create alternative ways of living that are sustainable socially\, financially\, spiritually\, emotionally\, mentally.. for all living creature? And how do we do that in a way that does justice to the enormous rich diversity of this world? I live in the walled garden and love to welcome people to share the space with all the other beings here. \nScarlet Hall\nHi\, I am a genderqueer person who is working at the North Pennines AONB Partnership to support collective learning around how to make the organisation\, our work and the wider North Pennines more welcoming and accessible to a greater diversity of people. \nThis event is a collaboration between TuT Bull\, the North Pennines AONB Partnership\, LGBT+ Northern Social Group\, and The Walled Garden at Minsteracres. \n
