SUMMARY:Art society exhibition
DESCRIPTION:In May the exhibition in the Bowlees Visitor Centre Gallery is a selection of work by members of the Barnard Castle & Teesdale Art Society. The Art Society Summer Exhibition features recent work by about 12 members of the society. Some of the artwork and small cards are for sale. \nBarnard Castle & Teesdale Art Society is a group of enthusiastic amateur artists with varying levels of experience\, meeting on Monday afternoons throughout the year. The group aims to encourage its members in creating art in various mediums\, especially painting and drawing\, with tutored sessions about once a month and mutual assistance at other times. \nThe society meets at Barnard Castle Guide HQ during school terms and for outdoor sketching in various venues (predominantly in Teesdale) in July & August.

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Herdship
DESCRIPTION:An outdoor exhibition celebrating hill farming\, which is on display adjacent to the Langdon Beck Hotel in Upper Teesdale. \nPhotographer Joanne Coates spent a year documenting the farming year in Upper Teesdale as part of the Tees-Swale: naturally connected programme being delivered by the North Pennines AONB Partnership and the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority. \nFor this unique insight into the working life of hill farmers\, tenant farmers Paul and Jen Johnson welcomed Joanne Coates to their Upper Teesdale farm\, Herdship\, on the Raby Estate. The resulting photographs will be exhibited a short distance down the dale in the field at the Langdon Beck Hotel\, from Wednesday 10 June to Sunday 4 June. Entry is free and there is parking at the hotel. \nTwenty images of life\, work\, and the natural year at Herdship will be on display\, set into the landscape high in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The large format images have been mounted on posts which will be repurposed for tree guards at the end of the exhibition.

SUMMARY:Green finance workshop: is the conservation sector ready?
DESCRIPTION:This event is being organised by the North Pennines AONB Partnership as part of its Pennine PeatLIFE project. This workshop aims to focus minds in the nature conservation world on the approaching wave of private sector/blended finance that is now becoming widely available to our organisations\, if only we had the right approaches\, contacts and vocabulary to match our pipelines of investible propositions. The workshop will examine the opportunities\, challenges\, threats and constraints currently being experienced at the delivery level\, with a focus on peatland restoration work in the UK as a demonstrator. The workshops will conclude with a set of actions for the relevant bodies to review and make happen\, so that two things can be realised: a) the envisioned upscaling of ecosystem restoration in the UK and b) the Government’s ambitions around private / blended finance making a real contribution to nature recovery.\nThe planned programme is interactive and will consist of a blend of presentations\, workshops\, and time to network with speakers and colleagues. Current speakers confirmed include Alan Law – Natural England Chief Officer of Strategy\, Dianna Kopansky from the United Nations Environment Programme – Global Peatlands Initiative\, Stephen Fern – Chairman of Ark2030\, Nature Finance expert Dan Hird\, and Dr Tim Thom – Natural Capital Advisor for Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. More speakers will be announced shortly; in the meantime you can book your ticket today. \nThe workshop is designed for policy makers\, senior representatives of delivery organisations\, and senior conservation agency and eNGO staff. It isn’t intended to be a session for ‘blue sky thinking’ or academia\, nor is it aimed primarily at investors. \nTickets are £50 each. A small number of bursary tickets will be available for people who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford to attend; please contact anna.trant@landscapesforlife.org.uk for more information. \nWe have a limited number of exhibitor spaces at the workshop. These are free to organisations that fit the workshop theme. For further information contact anna.trant@landscapesforlife.org.uk.
