SUMMARY:Plug planting
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a session of plug planting wildflowers into upland hay meadows in Teesdale. All training and equipment will be provided. There are a number of sessions throughout the autumn starting on 26 September\, 10am to 3.30pm. \nA general level of fitness is required. All ages are welcome; children must be supervised by adult. Outdoor clothing be worn and bring waterproofs and wear sturdy shoes. \nExact location and meeting instructions will be sent out at least 48 hours in advance. \nOther sessions are 12 October\, 10am to 3.30pm; 25 Oct\, 10am -12:30pm; 8 and 21 November\, 10am to 3.30pm. \nPlease sign up to using the Better Impact volunteer platform. \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:Pennine Way gate repair
DESCRIPTION:A volunteer opportunity to help replace a rotten gatepost and clearing overhanging vegetation at Dufton 25 October 10am to 4pm. Due to the physical nature of the work\, a reasonable level of fitness will be required. Suitable for 16+. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. \nPlease bring warm waterproof clothing. All PPE (personal protective equipment) will be provided\, including safety glasses\, gloves and steel toe cap boots if you need to borrow some. \nThe session may take us past lunchtime\, so please bring a packed lunch along. DESCRIPTION:The event on 25 October 8pm to 11pm will begin with a welcome from the lead astronomer at Grassholme Observatory\, Gary Fildes. Gary is a very experienced science communicator and astronomer\, and founder of the Kielder Observatory\, where he was Director and CEO for over 11 years. \nAfter the welcome Gary will take you on a whistle stop tour of the Universe. Following this\, you will split into groups and\, weather depending\, start observing the sky\, with telescopes and cameras. \nHave you ever looked up at the night-time sky and wondered why you can’t see anything other than stars? Have you ever looked up at the night sky and wondered how far it is to the stars that you can see? Do you want to know what a star is\, how a telescope works\, or even where it all came from? If your answered yes to any of these questions\, then you have come to the right place – Grassholme Observatory’s introduction evenings will cover all things astronomy! \nAfter the observing ends\, it’s back inside for a hot drink and questions and answers. \nGet wrapped up – it can get chilly when we are outside!
