DESCRIPTION:Join the Star camp for an astronomical weekend 27 to 29 October in Teesdale. The camp is perfect for novice astronomers and is great for adults and children (6+ years). Telescopes will be provided\, along with expert guidance and you are welcome to bring your own equipment too\, including cameras (with tripods) and binoculars. \nThere will also be astronomy themed talks\, solar observing and a bottle rocket competition. \nDuring the weekend Saturn will be looking amazing\, along with a super bright Jupiter and a big moon. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a short\, guided walk through the landscape around St Johns Chapel on 28 October\, 10.30am to approximately 12.30pm . We will follow a circular route which looks at the historic features that lie on the outskirts of the village\, especially focusing on the fascinating mining history of the area. \nAll ages are welcome (children must be accompanied by an adult and must be able to walk or be carried as the paths may not be suitable for pushchairs). DESCRIPTION:The event on 28 October 8pm to 11pm will begin with a welcome from the lead astronomer at Grassholme Observatory\, Gary Fildes. Gary is a very experienced science communicator and astronomer\, and founder of the Kielder Observatory\, where he was Director and CEO for over 11 years. \nAfter the welcome Gary will take you on a whistle stop tour of the Universe. Following this\, you will split into groups and\, weather depending\, start observing the sky\, with telescopes and cameras. \nHave you ever looked up at the night-time sky and wondered why you can’t see anything other than stars? Have you ever looked up at the night sky and wondered how far it is to the stars that you can see? Do you want to know what a star is\, how a telescope works\, or even where it all came from? If your answered yes to any of these questions\, then you have come to the right place – Grassholme Observatory’s introduction evenings will cover all things astronomy! \nAfter the observing ends\, it’s back inside for a hot drink and questions and answers. \nGet wrapped up – it can get chilly when we are outside!
