SUMMARY:Wild Wednesday - weaving with willow
DESCRIPTION:Wild Wednesdays are activities suitable for children aged five and over to enjoy and be creative. The first Wild Wednesday of 2024 is being held on 21 February\, 10.30am to 12.30pm\, at Bowlees Visitor Centre. \nThe activity is a willow weaving workshop with local artist Jackie Carnell. Join us during half term to weave a fish mobile using natural materials to take home with you. \nAll materials and equipment will be provided. This indoor activity is suitable for children over five years old however younger siblings are welcome but do not need to book. All children must be supervised by an adult. \nPlease use the Ticketsource link to book \n\n\n\n                \n                \n\n\n  \n \nDelivered as part of the Tees-Swale:naturally connected programme. SUMMARY:The digital direction of peatland restoration: automation and digital twins
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an online webinar\, hosted by EUROPARC Atlantic Isles\, on Wednesday 21 February\, 11.55am to 13.30pm. \nThe UK rapidly needs to increase its peatland restoration efforts to meet climate change and biodiversity targets. A major part of the solution lies in increasing financial resources\, but another route is for restoration practitioners to embrace digital technologies to improve the efficiency of restoration. Using remote sensing data and custom-built GIS models/scripts\, it is now possible to automatically map erosional peatland features\, such as hagg edges\, in seconds/minutes compared to days/weeks of manual work. Combining automated outputs with digital twins then allows for an immersive quality checking process and restoration interventions to be decided on from the desk rather than via labour-intensive field surveys. \nThe North Pennines National Landscape is the second largest of the 38 National Landscapes (previously known as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty\, AONBs) in England and Wales\, containing approximately 900 km2 of peatland which has been historically drained and degraded.
