DESCRIPTION:A travelling exhibition celebrating 60 years of the Pennine Way is making another stop on its journey along the iconic National Trail\, arriving in the North Pennines National Landscape for a two-month residency. \n‘A Trail of Inspiration: the Pennine Way at 60’ features work from artists\, musicians\, videographers\, writers and poets\, all inspired by journeys and experiences along this beloved 268-mile walking route. \nThe exhibition will be on show at the North Pennines National Landscape’s Bowlees Visitor Centre\, in Upper Teesdale from 3 July to 31 August. \nEach of the artists has created their own response to their experiences of walking and enjoying the trail. From talking backpacks and music\, to paintings and weavings\, the exhibition is as rich and varied as a day spent walking along the Pennine Way. As well as the creative work\, there is a canvas which gathers 300 images sent in by members of the public to share and celebrate the Pennine Way. \nPlease note that the exhibition space at Bowlees is accessed via stairs. \n  \nSally Zaranko with her artwork: Walking Weaving and Lines and Lino: tracing the trail

SUMMARY:Felted geode workshop (Nenthead200)
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to felt with wool and create your own ‘crystal geode’ to take home in this workshop with Anna Osborne of Felt Curious. \nThis family friendly workshop on 21 July\, 6pm to 8pm\, at Nenthead Village Hall\, Nenthead\, Alston. We will be taking inspiration from the unique geology of the North Pennines to make hollow ‘rocks’ from layers of coloured wool. Once felted\, they are then cut open to reveal the magic within and embellished with crystals. Perfect for beginners of all ages over seven years\, but also those who have had a go at felting and want to learn a new technique. \nThis workshop is part of the Nenthead200 celebrations\, marking 200 years since the London Lead Company designed the village of Nenthead. No prior knowledge of animation is needed as you’ll be given full instructions on how to create and make your productions. \nYour animations could also form part of a Land of Lead & Silver animation tellIng the story of the North Pennines mining heritage which Robin is working on. \nRobin is also looking for photos new and old\, video footage of the landscape\, places and the people\, any drawings or paintings you have made (they must be your own and original works) for the animation. Contribute your photographs\, videos\, art\, drawings\, paintings\, and even your words or sounds to both inspire and be part of this visual telling of the story of the North Pennines mining heritage. \nImages can be accepted in any digital format\, preferably at full resolution\, videos ideally should be in landscape though not essential\, .MP4 or .mov files are great\, please don’t send in original artwork all you need to do is photograph it in a good light\, try to avoid shadows and reflections from a strong or coloured light. SUMMARY:The adder through movement workshop
DESCRIPTION:POSTPONED – A new date will be issued for this event. \nEveryone is invited to a free full-day ‘Adder through Movement’ workshop\, at Stanhope Community Centre\, Saturday 10 January\, 10am to 4pm. \nAs part of the North Pennines National Landscape Adders Up project\, contemporary dancer Hollie Coleman and traditional folk dancer Gillow are offering a unique dance workshop exploring the Adder through movement. \nThe session will help shape the choreography for two large-scale adder puppets\, which will “dance” at the Weardale Wassail in January\, as well as develop a themed folk dance for participants to perform. The aim is that people will be able to follow the puppets in a lively\, snake-inspired procession — dancing as they go. \nHosted by Weardale Together\, the workshop will feature playful games\, warm-ups\, and creative movement exploration in the morning. In the afternoon\, participants will learn traditional folk dances that weave and flow like snakes\, creating beautiful\, intertwining sequences ready for January’s celebration. No experience necessary. All children must be accompanied by an adult. \nThe workshop will also shine a light on local adder conservation\, raising awareness of the species and the conservation efforts taking place across the North Pennines. \nPlease bring a packed lunch and drinks. DESCRIPTION:Come and share your views on a new sculpture trail proposed for Middleton-in-Teesdale.  The informal consultation\, led by the North Pennines National Landscape team as part of the Land of Lead and Silver project\, is on Saturday 28 February\, 2pm to 5pm at UTASS. \nThis public consultation event will give you the chance to find out more about the proposed trail\, hear how the artist plans to create the sculptures\, ask questions and share your ideas or suggestions. Whether you’re interested in the heritage of Teesdale\, enjoy walking in the area\, or are simply curious about new ways to explore the landscape\, everyone is welcome. \nFree refreshments will be available. All welcome\, children must be accompanied by an adult. No need to book. \nThis event is part of the engagement for a proposed sculpture trail celebrating the landscape\, history and heritage of the Middleton-in-Teesdale area. \n

SUMMARY:Sculpture trail scanning session
DESCRIPTION:Get involved in a new sculpture trail around Middleton-in-Teesdale and join us for a free scanning session at UTASS\, on Saturday 21 March\, 11.30am to 7.30pm. \nThis session will build on ideas gathered during the public consultation on 28 February\, finding out about people’s connections to lead mining in the area. The artist creating the sculptures will be 3D scanning those who have volunteered to be scanned for a sculpture. \nNo previous experience required\, guidance and support will be provided throughout the day which will run as a flexible\, workshop-style event. \nPlease book a 30 minute slot via the Ticketsource link for a scanning session. \n\n\n\n                \n                \n\n\nThis event is part of the North Pennines National Landscape’s project\, the Land of Lead & Silver Project’s work to celebrate and share the rich landscape\, history and heritage of the Middleton-in-Teesdale area through new ways of exploring the North Pennines. \n   \n

SUMMARY:Botanical drawing workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join artist Linda Garrard for a hands-on drawing workshop at High Forest Community Centre\, Sinderhope\, on Sunday 21 June\, 10.30am to 3.30pm\, inspired by the extraordinary plants that grow on the old lead mining landscapes of the North Pennines. \nThe workshop is suitable for adults of all abilities. No previous drawing experience is needed. \nThe session begins with an introduction to the rare lead tolerant flowers that survive in these challenging soils\, including spring sandwort\, alpine pennycress and wild mountain pansies. You will learn what makes these plants so unusual and why they matter. \nYou will also explore the work of artists who use botanical subjects in their practice. This short introduction ranges from traditional plant studies to contemporary artists who use botanical forms to explore ecology\, fragility and place. \nThe practical part of the Rooted in Lead workshop focuses on charcoal and chalk drawing. Linda will guide you through different techniques for mark making\, tone\, texture and expressive drawing. DESCRIPTION:Explore the unique qualities of metal point drawing in this Rooted in Lead workshop\, on Saturday 11th July\, 10.30am to 3.30pm at High Forest Community Centre\, Sinderhope. \nThe workshop is suitable for adults of all abilities. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a live outdoor performance work created with – and within – the landscape of Bollihope\, a place of outstanding beauty and rich industrial history. Bollihope is near Frosterley and Stanhope in County Durham. \nDigging into the stories buried in the belly of this unique man-made landscape\, five artists take to its hills on Sunday 13 September\, revealing a curious alchemy of music\, dance\, image\, and the pull of the wind itself. There are two performances\, 1pm and 3.30pm\, which last approximately 45 minutes and takes place entirely outdoors. \nPlease bring a blanket or camping chair to settle onto the spoil heap and\, most importantly\, a pair of binoculars to catch the performance up high. The terrain and the route from the car park to the performance area can be viewed here. \nEsther Huss is a contemporary dance artist who regularly collaborates with visual artist Claudia Sacher and sound artist Jeremy Bradfield\, and is joined for this performance by dance artist Aki Iwamoto and musician John Pope. This commission\, awarded a grant by the North Pennines National Landscape team\, sees the five artists reimagine our landscape through dance\, sound and visual art. \nThere is an optional donation of £3.
