SUMMARY:Family friendly printing workshop
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to create nature-inspired prints using botanicals collected from the North Pennines in this hands-on family friendly event. The workshop at Alston Town Hall\, Sunday 25 May\, 10am to 12 noon\, is designed for everyone to enjoy the magic of printing from real plants. \nGuided by artist Carole McCourt\, explore the rich diversity of local flora\, from delicate wildflowers to sturdy grasses and ferns\, and transform them into works of art. Using gelatine plates – a soft\, flexible printing surface – create unique\, colourful prints that capture the intricate details and textures of each plant. Experiment with layering\, colour\, and design to make your own pieces of artwork to take home. \nAll art materials\, plants and botanicals to print with will be provided. Please wear comfortable clothing you don’t mind getting a bit messy. Suitable for families with children over the age of 7 years. All children must be supervised by a responsible adult. \nSuggested donation of £3 per adult and £2 per child. Your donation enables the North Pennines National Landscape team to protect and restore this special place and help people connect with nature. \nIf you have any accessibility requirements that would improve your experience of this event please email rebecca@northpennines.org.uk. \nPlease book using the Ticketsource link \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n  \n         \n  \nThis event is part of North Pennines NatureFest running from Saturday 24 May to Sunday 8 June 2025. SUMMARY:Family friendly astronomy
DESCRIPTION:Join the team at the North Pennines Observatory for this family friendly creative introduction to astronomy – bringing together art and science to explore the constellations and our near planets as viewed from the North Pennines. \nGuest astronomer\, Roy Alexander\, will start with a beginner’s guide around the night sky. If the sky is clear you’ll be outside looking up with laser pointers to identify the cosmos looking in particular\, for Saturn\, Jupiter and the constellations of Taurus\, the Seven Sisters\, and much\, much more. If it’s cloudy\, no worries we’ll use our astronomy software and big screen projection to show you a virtual image of the ‘live’ sky that night. \nBut it won’t stop there\, ACA’s creative director and artist Alan Smith will overlap with Roy to take you back through art history looking at how humankind has creatively interpreted the cosmos through some incredible artwork. You will then have the opportunity to draw your own map of the cosmos and create your own constellations to take home. \n\nThis event is suitable for families (8 years +) or anyone of any age or ability wanting to explore the wonders of the universe.\n\nAdvance booking is essential via https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/family-friendly-creative-introduction-to-astronomy-tickets-1024914235067 \n\n£12.50 concessions (under 18)\n£19 adult (18+)\n£52 family (2 adults\, 2 children)\n\nNorth Pennines Observatory @ ACA\, Allenheads Contemporary Arts\, Old School House\, Allenheads\, Hexham\, Northumberland NE47 9HR. Visit https://www.acart.org.uk/observatory-allenheads for details. \nIf the sky is clear\, we’ll open up the observatory to take a closer look at the night sky after the talk and arts activities. Observing the skies is weather-dependent\, but you’ll be pleased to know that events go ahead whatever the weather. The team at the observatory aim to deliver exciting and interesting events every time. \nWrap up warm and bring a red light torch (if you have one). All art materials provided. Access to the North Pennines Observatory is via a steep access road and has limited space for parking – please park considerately in the village and walk up or message (helenshead@acart.org.uk) to reserve a parking space. Warm drinks will be provided. \nDoors open 6.15 pm. Please arrive early for welcome hot drinks. The presentation will allow plenty of time for questions and discussion. Finish time may be extended to continue stargazing on a clear night. \nAsk about stargazing sleepovers at the onsite accommodation at the Observatory Cabin (up to 3 people) or the larger 4-bedroom accommodation at the Old School House. Book for this event or another private\, bespoke stargazing experience. Contact helenshead@acart.org.uk for more information. \nThis North Pennines Observatory @ ACA event is part of the North Pennines Stargazing Festival running from 25 October to 3 November 2024 – www.NorthPenninesStarFest.org #NorthPennStarFest24 #NPennDarkSkies
