SUMMARY:High Helbeck estate circular ramble (3 miles)
DESCRIPTION:Join the North Pennines AONB Partnership on a walk to explore part of the little known High Helbeck estate. As well as discussing the current work taking place on the estate\, we will be keeping our eyes and ears open for any wildlife we might come across\, particularly upland wading bird species. Please bring binoculars if you have them\, although we will have some spares. \nThe High Helbeck Green Recovery Fund Project is a partnership project between estate owners Ben & Nicolete Blackett-Ord\, the North Pennines AONB Partnership\, the RSPB\, the Woodland Trust and Natural England. The Defra-backed project runs from January 2021 to March 2022 and a key part of the scheme is to deliver significant biodiversity benefits to the High Helbeck estate (near Brough\, Cumbria) including 80 hectares of peatland restoration\, an increase in trees and scrub\, covering 153 hectares\, and a series of small wetlands to enhance 85 hectares of habitat for breeding wading birds. \nThis circular route is around 3 miles long. The walk follows a wide range of terrain on some steep slopes with some boggy areas. The route also passes through a small stream and\, as water levels can be unpredictable\, it is recommended to wear wellies just in case. A decent level of fitness is required to complete this walk. Please ensure you dress for the weather. No food or drink is provided but feel free to bring drinks and snacks. There is a toilet towards the end of the walk that can be used if required. \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\nMeeting Point – Deadman Gill Layby – grid reference – NY823188. If you are unsure of directions\, please contact Chris Jones (cjones@northpenninesaonb.org.uk). Please car share where possible as parking is very limited. \nThis circular route is around 3 miles long. The walk follows a wide range of terrain on some steep slopes with some boggy areas. SUMMARY:Farm educational visits information evening
DESCRIPTION:Farmers play a crucial role in developing a society which is aware of and connected to the food we eat. SUMMARY:Nature's Calendar at Talkin Tarn
DESCRIPTION:Nature’s Calendar at Talkin Tarn\nCome and celebrate the changing of the seasons and learn how to record the signs of autumn in your area for the Woodland Trust’s Nature’s Calendar database. We’ll meet at the log cabin for 10am and head out on a family friendly walk where we’ll encounter trees beginning to take on their autumn colours. \nNo prior knowledge is necessary\, as we’ll go through the identification of some common trees on the day. Afterwards\, we’ll have lunch and look at how you can upload your own records into Nature’s Calendar. \nNature’s Calendar is a long-standing citizen science project\, hosted by The Woodland Trust\, which dates as far back as 1736. By uploading records of seasonal changes onto the database\, you can help scientists answer questions such as what effect weather has on wildlife\, and whether climate change is affecting timings in nature. \nThis event is open to everyone\, including families\, although the terrain may be uneven so please ensure you have suitable footwear.  The walk will take approximately 2 hours so bring appropriate clothing and a packed lunch. Places are limited so booking is essential. \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n
