SUMMARY:A day at Hannah's Meadow
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Hannah’s Meadow to explore the extraordinary life of Hannah Hauxwell. Hannah was a farmer whose life on remote Low Birk Hatt farm in Baldersdale has become part of the very fabric of the North Pennines. \nExplore where Hannah lived\, see the wildflower meadows\, enjoy a theatre production illustrating her life\, and see part of the Hannah Hauxwell collection from the Fitzhugh Library that documents her life and times. \nThere will be a performance of “No Through Road”\, by Shelagh McKay Jones and Karen McDonnell\, a delightfully thought-provoking mix of spoken word\, song and visual imagery illustrating Hannah’s struggle with the elements through her life-enhancing and uplifting story. \nIn the afternoon\, a guided walk by landowner Michelle Hurley\, and Molly Jones\, Farming Support Officer from the North Pennines AONB Partnership\, will explore Hannah’s former farm. We will walk around Hannah’s Meadow and up to the Durham Wildlife Trust interpretation barn\, looking at common meadow wildflowers and talking about meadow management practices that continue in many of our remaining upland hay meadows today. \nPlease bring your own picnic lunch. Tea and scones will be on sale from the farm. Parking details and joining instructions will be sent to ticket holders before the event. Please book using the link below. \nDogs are not allowed at this event. SUMMARY:Slowing the flow
DESCRIPTION:Join Hilary Clarke\, from Eden Rivers Trust (ERT)\, on Friday 10 November\, 2.30 to 4.30pm\, for a walk through a newly created wetland site near Croglin. The Watery Gill\, a tributary of the Cairn Beck\, has been re-connected with its pasture\, creating a great wetland habitat and slowing the run-off of water down the river system. \nHilary will explain how they have worked closely with the landowners to improve this site for wildlife and maintained a balance with the need for grazing at the site. You will also learn about the wider ERT project work and how to support and get involved with future initiatives. \nThis event is open to all but no dogs are allowed. Places are limited\, please book using the Ticketsource link below. \nFollowing this event\, there is a presentation and discussion on the theme of ‘A More Wooded Landscape’ at Hunsonby Community Hall. Why not stay on\, have supper with us and find out more about trees in the landscape with the North Pennines AONB Partnership and partners. You will need to book this event separately. \nTo book  please us the Ticketsource link. \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n  \n                \n  \nThis event is part of the North Pennines AONB Partnership’s Fellfoot Forward Landscape Partnership Scheme’s celebration of partnership working towards the recovery of our natural heritage across the North Pennines and Eden Valley. \nImage credit: Dave Greaves

SUMMARY:A day at Hannah’s meadows
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate National Meadows Day\, we have a weekend of activities at Low Birk Hatt farm in Baldersdale on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July\, 10am to 2pm\, (with the option of a guided walk in the meadow until 3.30pm). \nSpend a day learning about the life of Hannah Hauxwell\, a farmer who lived an extraordinary life on a remote farm in Baldersdale. Explore the farm where she lived\, see the wildflower meadows\, enjoy a theatre production illustrating her life\, and see an exhibition of items from her life from the Fitzhugh Library’s collection. \nThe day will start with a performance by Shelagh McKay Jones and Karen McDonnell\, who said: “Hannah’s story\, subject of many TV documentaries\, has had us spellbound for decades. This Gig Theatre Production is a delightfully thought-provoking mix of spoken word\, song and visual imagery illustrating Hannah’s struggle with the elements through her life-enhancing and uplifting story.”. \nWe will take a break for lunch\, please bring your own picnic and a camping chair too. Tea and scones will be available. \nIn the afternoon\, we will have an informal Q&A\, followed by an optional meadow walk led by a member of the North Pennines National Landscape team. \nThis event is suitable for ages 18+. The terrain on the farm can be uneven\, please wear suitable footwear. Dogs are not allowed at this event. \nPlease use the Ticketsource link to book \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n               \n
