DESCRIPTION:Bring the North Pennines’ mining heritage to life through stop-motion film\, and join us for one or both days of this workshop. \nLearn how create stunning\, original animations led by north east artist and animator\, Robin Webb\, on Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 October\, at Alston Town Hall. The workshop is suitable for families with children over the age of seven years. You are welcome to join one or both days. \nWhat’s Involved: \n\nExplore the mining heritage of Alston with a guided site visit (day 1 only)\nLearn stop-motion animation using accessible tools and techniques\nUse photography\, painting\, found objects\, fabric\, clay and more to tell powerful visual stories\nCreate your own short\, animated film inspired by place\, memory\, and landscape\n\nWhether you’re completely new to animation or an experienced creative looking to try something different\, this workshop offers a relaxed\, hands-on space to experiment\, learn\, and tell your own visual story. Guest speaker\, Eric Branse-Instone\, Listing Advisor from Historic England will share his expertise on scheduling industrial and lead mining sites\, give an update on the Missing Pieces Project\, and answer your questions. \nWe’re broadening our Land of Lead and Silver Project indoor working days — developing new ways to record and research our sites\, from 3D digital modelling and photography to contextual and historical work. \nWhether you have detailed knowledge or are completely new to these skills\, this event is for you. Eric will spend the full day with us\, exploring your work and sharing insights into national heritage practice. DESCRIPTION:Local animation artist\, Robin Webb\, will be running animation drop-in sessions during the Nenthead200 weekend in the Barracks building a Nenthead Mines on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 August. \nHave a go at producing your own stop-motion animations using plasticine or cut-outs to bring your Nenthead200 inspired creations to life. No prior knowledge of animation is needed as you’ll be given full instructions on how to create and make your productions. \nYour animations could also form part of a Land of Lead & Silver animation tellIng the story of the North Pennines mining heritage which Robin is working on. \nRobin is also looking for photos new and old\, video footage of the landscape\, places and the people\, any drawings or paintings you have made (they must be your own and original works) for the animation. Contribute your photographs\, videos\, art\, drawings\, paintings\, and even your words or sounds to both inspire and be part of this visual telling of the story of the North Pennines mining heritage. \nImages can be accepted in any digital format\, preferably at full resolution\, videos ideally should be in landscape though not essential\, .MP4 or .mov files are great\, please don’t send in original artwork all you need to do is photograph it in a good light\, try to avoid shadows and reflections from a strong or coloured light. Sounds can be sent in as well either in mp3 or .WAV formats. Any words or written work can be sent in using Microsoft Word or PDF formats. SUMMARY:Nenthead supper - a feast of food\, music and community
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Nenthead’s village and history with a heart warming evening of food\, music and dance as part of Nenthead200 celebrations. The Nenthead supper is a chance for people to get together\, share a delicious meal\, and enjoy live local entertainment at Nenthead Village Hall\, Saturday 23 August\, 6pm to 11pm. \nEnjoy a warm buffet supper of traditional Cumbrian favourites by local caterer\, Angela Drane. Tap your toes and dance the night away to the sounds of live folk music and dancing\, performed by a specially formed band of local musicians. \nTickets cost £10 for adults over the age of 16. Under 16’s are free and must be accompanied by a paying adult\, (maximum three under 16’s per adult). Tickets are available using the Ticketsource link below and are also available from Nenthead Village Shop. All proceeds from this event will go to Nenthead Village Hall. \nWe are offering 5 bursary places for this course which will reduce the cost to £0. There is no strict criteria for these places\, they are available for anyone for whom the cost is prohibitive. No prior knowledge of animation is needed as you’ll be given full instructions on how to create and make your productions. \nYour animations could also form part of a Land of Lead & Silver animation tellIng the story of the North Pennines mining heritage which Robin is working on. \nRobin is also looking for photos new and old\, video footage of the landscape\, places and the people\, any drawings or paintings you have made (they must be your own and original works) for the animation. Contribute your photographs\, videos\, art\, drawings\, paintings\, and even your words or sounds to both inspire and be part of this visual telling of the story of the North Pennines mining heritage. \nImages can be accepted in any digital format\, preferably at full resolution\, videos ideally should be in landscape though not essential\, .MP4 or .mov files are great\, please don’t send in original artwork all you need to do is photograph it in a good light\, try to avoid shadows and reflections from a strong or coloured light. All women are welcome to join and share stories\, skills\, and inspiration with others. \nPlaces are limited to 10 to ensure individual guidance and plenty of space to develop your ideas during the creative\, hands-on journey through textile techniques including botanical printing\, mono printing\, cyanotype\, mark-making\, embroidery\, and fabric manipulation. \nThis explorative course offers a chance to experiment\, connect\, and grow your creative practice in a relaxed and welcoming environment. SUMMARY:Saturday stroll - NatureFest special
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special Saturday stroll for North Pennines NatureFest celebrating the unique flora of the area. \nLocal artist Carole McCourt will lead a guided walk from Westgate\, Weardale\, 31 May\, 10.30am to 2.30pm\, to explore the delicate balance between geology and botany\, where plants have adapted to survive in challenging conditions. \nThe event begins with a short presentation\, followed by an easy walk learning about a variety of wildflowers\, grasses\, and lichens\, including rare lead-tolerant plants known as metallophytes. See species like Spring Sandwort (leadwort)\, Pyrenean Scurvy Grass\, Alpine Pennycress\, and Wild Mountain Pansies\, which thrive here in abundance during May to July. \nAfter the walk\, return for lunch and a creative workshop\, using art materials (provided) to capture the beauty of the landscape and its plants. \nPlease wear suitable footwear and appropriate clothing for the weather\, and bring a packed lunch and drinks. The event is suitable for families with children over the age of seven. Dogs on short leads are welcome. \nSuggested donation £3 per adult\, £2 per child.
