SUMMARY:Farming and nature talk: Can farming ever be truly nature-friendly?
DESCRIPTION:This winter we are holding a series of evening talks with the theme of examining the links between farming and nature. The talks\, held at The Moorcock Inn in Eggleston\, 7.30pm to 9pm\, are open to farmers and landowners as well as members of the public. Each evening there will be an invited speaker with the opportunity of discussion afterwards. \n“Can farming ever be truly nature-friendly”\, Wednesday 16 October\, with guest speaker Neil Heseltine will give us an overview of his experiences of nature-friendly farming. Neil is a farmer from Hill top farm near Malham and the previous Chair of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority. He works closely with The Pasture-Fed Livestock Association (PFLA) and The Nature Friendly Farming Network (NFFN). \nThe first talk of the season will be slightly shorter as we will be holding the High Nature Value (HNV) awards ceremony afterwards with Professor Sir John Lawton presenting the winners of the High Nature Value (HNV) farming awards. \nEveryone welcome\, booking required. If you are a Tees-Swale farmer you can come to this talk for free\, please email Ruth Starr-Keddle or Patrick Oulton to get the code. \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n  \n   \n  \nDelivered as part of the Tees-Swale: Naturally Connected programme. Tees-Swale is funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and led by the North Pennines National Landscape team in collaboration with the Yorkshire Dales National Park. \n

SUMMARY:New observatory welcome
DESCRIPTION:Come along to this fabulous stargazing opportunity on Alston Moor. It’s a combination of introduction to the new observatory\, themed talks\, and (weather permitting) stargazing. \nTalk and stargazing opportunity at Alston Moor Golf Club – a truly dark site in the South Tyne Valley. This will be a double event in one evening: firstly there will be a stargazing event with talks and stargazing; and secondly it is an ideal opportunity to see the brand new observatory which has been developed at the Golf Club. This event is being organised by David Hymers. \nAdvance booking is essential – contact David Hymers on david@davidhymers.com / 07483 327560 to book and pay for your place and for further information. \nTickets cost £10. Event is suitable for ages 16+ (ages 16-18 must come with adult/parent) \nAs well as the observatory telescope there will access to binoculars and indoors presentation on screen and slides – also with images shown directly from telescope and camera. \nArrive by 6.30pm for tea/coffee\, for event start at 7.00pm (finish approximately 9pm). No dogs please – they are a trip hazard in the dark. \nAimed at amateur astronomers over 16 years. If you’re 16-18 you must be accompanied by an adult. \nNote that if the skies are cloudy the event will still go ahead – with astronomers giving presentations\, providing information and answering questions on all things ‘dark skies’. \nThis event is part of the North Pennines Stargazing Festival running from 25 October to 3 November 2024 – www.NorthPenninesStarFest.org #NorthPennStarFest24 #NPennDarkSkies \nImage: (c) Gary Lintern Photography
