SUMMARY:Adder survey training: online
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an online training session on 11 February\, 6.30pm to 8pm\, to develop your understanding of how to survey adders and help contribute valuable data to the North Pennines National Landscape’s ‘Adders Up’ project. \nDuring the online webinar participants will learn how to safely and effectively survey for adders\, how to identify and sex adders\, and how to limit disturbance. They will also learn about their conservation status and threats as well as the current knowledge baseline of adders in the North Pennines. \nThere will be many opportunities in the future to join as volunteer adder surveyors for the North Pennines National Landscape. \nParticipants will also learn how to identify the other reptiles and amphibians found in the North Pennines. \nThe online session is open to all with the aim of adults (older children with adults) capable of surveying in the field in the future. Volunteer opportunities in the upcoming adder surveys are in April and May and are subject to having attended the online session. \nThere are also in person adder survey training sessions in March. \nBook your place using the link to Ticketsource. \n\n\n\n                \n                \n\n\n  \n          \n  \n

Training will follow on from the adder survey training webinar\, covering safety\, animal identification and survey techniques. \nThe training at Longburnford Quarry Nature Reserve near Castleside is on 19 March\, 9am to 12.30pm. Full details of the meeting point will be given when signing up to volunteer. \nThere are two other opportunities available\, 26 March and 2 April at different locations. \nThe session is suitable for adults\, and children over the age of 12 who are supervised. SUMMARY:Tree and hedge planting
DESCRIPTION:Join us on farms across Teesdale to create more space for nature and improve habitat connectivity by planting trees and hedgerows. \nThere are several volunteer opportunities for tree and hedge planting throughout the winter\, at locations across Teesdale. \nTree and hedge planting dates\, 10am to 3.30pm: \n\n22 January\n30 January\n5 February\n10 February\n18 February\n26 February\n5 March\n10 March\n18 March\n26 March\n31 March\n9 April\n16 April\n\nA light lunch will be provided but please bring any drinks and snacks. All ages are welcome\, children must be supervised by adult. All training and equipment will be provided. Please wear outdoor clothing and bring waterproofs\, and wear boots with a sturdy sole. SUMMARY:Volunteer woodland surveys
DESCRIPTION:Volunteer to help us assess the condition of woodlands in the North Pennines National Landscape as part of the Landscape Connections project. \nThe are four opportunities on various dates to get involved in. The first one starts in Dufton on Saturday 11 April\, 10am to 2pm. There will be a short walk from the parking locations to the survey areas and are suitable for adults and children\, (under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult). \nOther dates\, 10am to 2pm\, to volunteer are: \n\nWednesday 22 April – Allen Valley\nThursday 7 May – Weardale\nTuesday 19 May – Teesdale\n\nExact locations will be confirmed nearer to the date of the survey. \nPlease wear sturdy boots and clothing suitable for the weather. SUMMARY:Volunteer moth trapping opportunities
DESCRIPTION:Moth trapping is a fantastic way to measure changes in biodiversity on farms. Volunteer with us for moth trapping sessions in the North Pennines. \nWe’ll be working with (and testing out) new technology developed by the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (CEH). We’re looking for citizen scientists to help us. \nThere are four opportunities which will run from 9am to 11.30am. The first session is on Wednesday 6 May in Weardale. A short walk from the parking area to our moth traps will be required. Exact location details will be available nearer to the date of the session. \nOther dates\, 9am to 11.30am\, to volunteer are: \n\nTuesday 12 May – Teesdale\nSaturday 16 May – Dufton\nThursday 28 May – Allen Valleys\n\nPlease wear sturdy footwear and bring clothing suitable for all weathers.
