SUMMARY:Geology walk: Stanhope
DESCRIPTION:Geology walk: Stanhope\nPart of our new walking programme taking in some of the key geological features of the North Pennines AONB and UNESCO Global Geopark. Guided by some of our knowledgeable volunteers or our geology projects staff\, the walks take place throughout the year\, with approximately one walk a month from March to October. See the events page for other walks with starting points across the AONB. \nThis 6km route takes you from the small market town of Stanhope in the heart of Weardale out into the surrounding landscape to explore the area’s rich geological and mining heritage. \nPlease bring water and a snack and expect some rough terrain. Sturdy footwear is essential. No dogs. \nMeet at the Durham Dales Centre\, Stanhope from 10am. The walk will begin at 10:30.

SUMMARY:Adding up adders
DESCRIPTION:A one-day workshop to learn all about adders and how to survey for them. This course will be led by John Grundy\, vice chair and field training officer for the North East Reptile & Amphibian Group. Participants will spend the morning indoors\, looking at landscapes and key features for adders within them\, plus reptile behaviour and ecology. This will be followed by an outdoors session practising survey techniques\, discussing survey methods and pinpointing key habitat features. The course is suitable for beginners\, as well as more experienced naturalists who wish to develop their adder survey skills. \nTea and coffee provided. \nBooking is essential as places are limited.
