SUMMARY:Exhibition: Birds and Beasts
DESCRIPTION:Birds and Beasts\, an exhibition of work by artist\, Holly Magdalene Scott\, is on display at the North Pennines AONB Partnership’s Bowlees Visitor Centre during May. \nThe exhibition of hand-coloured linocut prints celebrates the wildlife of Teesdale and was inspired by Holly’s walks and wildlife observations in the North Pennines AONB and UNESCO Global Geopark. \nHolly M Scott is an Artist/Printmaker based in Teesdale\, Co Durham. Known for her detailed\, sensitive linocuts of birds and insects\, Holly’s work conveys her lifelong fascination with the natural world. \nBorn from a strong connection to the land\, and inspired by childhood memories and chance encounters with wildlife\, her hand-coloured lino prints touch upon elements of natural history illustration and folklore\, seeking to evoke hidden animal lives.

SUMMARY:Managing small areas of land for nature
DESCRIPTION:This event will look at ways to boost nature in gardens\, small fields\, and smallholdings\, using an example in Cumrew where a group of small fields attached to a home have been improved for wildlife. \nThere will be advice on creating habitats to maximise biodiversity\, including species of tree\, shrub\, and herbaceous plants which act as foodplants for insect larvae\, and we will help you assess the nature value of your land and it’s value to the surrounding landscape. \nThere will also be an opportunity for participants to ask questions about their ideas for their land and we will offer help on subjects such as ponds\, scrapes\, woodland and scrub creation as well as suggesting opportunities available for helping you to manage your land for wildlife. \nBooking is essential as places are limited.

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Moorland Line
DESCRIPTION:Moorland Line: an exhibition of art inspired by the North Pennines landscape\nBowlees Visitor Centre Gallery\n1 – 31 August 2022\nA collection of artworks inspired by the landscapes of the North Pennines AONB and UNESCO Global Geopark will be on display at Bowlees Visitor Centre throughout August. \nArtist Simon Wilson will be exhibiting and selling a collection of mixed media and print contemporary landscape artworks in the Bowlees Gallery\, entitled Moorland Line. \nMoorland Line marks the boundary between the open moorland and farm fields in upland areas like the North Pennines. \nSimon works as a Programme Manager for the North Pennines AONB Partnership\, and is responsible for work relating to business and engagement. He said: “In my day job I spend a lot of time encouraging people to discover the outstanding North Pennines landscape\, similar to what I hope to achieve with my art. The Bowlees Visitor Centre is the gateway for visitors to the North Pennines and an ideal location to display my art\, and I hope that people will enjoy my art and be inspired to discover the landscapes I’ve depicted.” \nSimon works mainly in acrylic but also in mixed media including Indian Ink\, graphite and charcoal. Most of his work is contemporary landscapes and seascapes of Northern England. “My work begins with outdoor sketches\, photographs and plein air paintings with works being completed in the studio. I spend time outside in all weathers and all seasons and am particularly interested in capturing dramatic skies.” \nBowlees Visitor Centre is run by the North Pennines AONB Partnership and is the perfect place to start exploring the walks\, waterfalls and wildlife in the local area\, or to inspire a trip further afield in the AONB. The Centre offers visitor information\, refreshments at the Falls Café\, and a gallery space\, plus places to explore\, picnic and play in the grounds.
