This first Teesdale training session is open to those who already have basic bumblebee identification skills either from attending our webinar on the 5th of May or previous training. \nStarting from Bowlees Visitor Centre we will walk down to Low Force and along The Pennine Way towards Middleton-in-Teesdale where there will be lots of early flowering plants. The first hour will cover basic bumblebee identification including catching bumblebees using nets and identifying them in pots. During the second half of the afternoon\, we will cover the methodology of a BeeWalk whilst walking a one-mile stretch of The Pennine Way. \nVolunteers will need to commit to undertaking specific BeeWalks next to a meadow that will have seed addition this summer. The walks are to be undertaken once a week over a six to eight week period and locations\, maps etc. will be provided. The webinar will also include an informal Q&A session and a demo of how to set up and use one of the new communal use cameras (which will be available to loan through the Fellfoot Forward LPS). \nCamera traps\, or trail cameras\, are remote cameras that will take still photos or video clips of mammals\, birds\, and\, sometimes\, reptiles. They are triggered by a combination of motion and infra-red heat and are particularly effective at night\, revealing wildlife that you may have no idea is around your local area. Cameras can be used in gardens but are best used on trails where animals cross becks\, walls and other obstructions on their favourite travel routes. \nA link to a training film (filmed at an existing camera site in the Fellfoot Forward area)\, as well as highlights of what you might find and see\, will be available in advance of the event on the Fellfoot Forward Facebook group and the North Pennines AONB website.
