DESCRIPTION:This winter we are holding a series of evening talks with a general theme of the links between farming and nature. Held at The Moorcock in Eggleston\, the hour-long talks will be followed by a half hour discussion. \n‘This networking life’\, led by Adam Day\, is the second talk in the series on 7 November. Please arrive from 7.15pm ahead of the talk starting at 7.30pm. \nAdam Day is the Managing Director of the Farmer Network Ltd and an auctioneer. He will share some tales from the auction\, discuss the work of the Farmer Network\, and look ahead to the future of farming. \nEveryone welcome\, booking required. DESCRIPTION:Join Historic England’s Jon Bedford in this photogrammetry refresher workshop on 8 November 10am to 4pm at Allen Mill . This will be a chance to go over what you learned in the first workshop in May\, and to raise any questions you might have come up with since then. You will be able to ask questions both about the photography process\, and about using the software to process your images into models. \nVolunteers are required to have attended the 2-day photogrammetry workshop held in May 2023. DESCRIPTION:Join Hilary Clarke\, from Eden Rivers Trust (ERT)\, on Friday 10 November\, 2.30 to 4.30pm\, for a walk through a newly created wetland site near Croglin. The Watery Gill\, a tributary of the Cairn Beck\, has been re-connected with its pasture\, creating a great wetland habitat and slowing the run-off of water down the river system. \nHilary will explain how they have worked closely with the landowners to improve this site for wildlife and maintained a balance with the need for grazing at the site. You will also learn about the wider ERT project work and how to support and get involved with future initiatives. \nThis event is open to all but no dogs are allowed. SUMMARY:Mining heritage condition surveying and monitoring

DESCRIPTION:Join us and a group of volunteers to connect the landscape through planting hedges at Church Farm\, Gamblesby. As well as getting some fresh air and exercise\, you’ll also be helping to bolster local wildlife and carbon sequestration\, using a diverse hedge mix to boost the farm’s biodiversity as well as create vital habitat highways for wildlife. \nThe event will run from 10am to approximately 2.30pm and volunteers are welcome to join for all or part of the day. Held at The Moorcock in Eggleston\, the hour-long talks will be followed by a half hour discussion. \n‘What we didn’t know’\, led by Nic Renison\, is the third talk in the series on 29 November and will be followed by the presentation of the High Nature Value Farming Awards. SUMMARY:Hedge and tree planting
DESCRIPTION:Join us at a farm near Baldersdale to undertake tree and hedge planting on 21 & 22 January 10am to 3.30pm. We will be planting a broadleaved hedge mix of predominately hawthorn and a small number of native trees. \nA light lunch will be provided but please bring any drinks and snacks. All ages are welcome\, children must be supervised by adult. All training and equipment will be provided. Please wear outdoor clothing and bring waterproofs\, and wear boots with a sturdy sole. A general level of fitness needed. Exact location will be confirmed at least 48 hours prior to the event. \nPlease sign up using the Better Impact volunteer platform. \n  \n \n
