DESCRIPTION:Volunteer opportunities to undertake maintenance works to various mine sites across the North Pennines\, on the first Tuesday of each month\, commencing 3 March 2026\, 10am to 3pm. \nIn this monthly activity you will join Gary and Arran of Heritage Consolidation\, to undertake maintenance tasks at lead mining structures. \nSteel toe capped boots and gloves are strongly recommended for this task\, gloves can be provided.\nMore details will be provided upon signing up. Suitable for 18+ \nLocations will be decided closer to the date. \nDates are:-\n3 March\n7 April\n5 May\n2 June\n7 July\n4 August\n1 September\n6 October\n3 November\n1 December \nSign up using the Better Impact volunteer link \n

DESCRIPTION:The North Pennines National Landscape is hosting the Northern Adders Conference on Saturday\, 14 March 2026\, 9.30am to 4.30pm. \nThe conference will focus on adders in the north\, exploring conservation\, research\, education and engagement\, and the particular challenges and opportunities that exist in northern landscapes. \nThis full-day conference is open to anyone with an interest in adder conservation\, and delegates will have the opportunity to learn about efforts to protect this vulnerable species and hear about ways that adders are being celebrated in the North. \nThere is an opportunity for people who are undertaking research in this field to submit and display a research poster at the conference. If you are interested in this option please email samuel@northpennines.org.uk \nBooking is essential – if you would like to attend\, please book online using the booking form below. Training will follow on from the adder survey training webinar\, covering safety\, animal identification and survey techniques. \nThe training at Longburnford Quarry Nature Reserve near Castleside is on 19 March\, 9am to 12.30pm. Full details of the meeting point will be given when signing up to volunteer. \nThere are two other opportunities available\, 26 March and 2 April at different locations. \nThe session is suitable for adults\, and children over the age of 12 who are supervised. Unsuitable for wheelchairs\, dogs and young children. \nApologies\, bookings are now closed for this event. \n  \n                     \n
