SUMMARY:Farming and nature talk: why are rare plants rare
DESCRIPTION:Please note: this date has changed from 26 November\nThis winter we are holding a series of evening talks with the theme of examining the links between farming and nature. The talks\, held at The Moorcock Inn in Eggleston\, 7.30pm to 9pm\, are open to farmers and landowners as well as members of the public. Each evening there will be an invited speaker with the opportunity of discussion afterwards. \nAt the second talk in our series\, on Wednesday 5 November\, local botanist John O’Reilly\, who has been working alongside the Teesdale Special Flora Trust will discuss why are rare plants rare. \nEveryone welcome\, booking required\, £4 per person. If you are a Tees-Swale farmer you can come to this talk for free\, please email  molly@northpennines.org.uk to get the code. \n\n\n\n                \n                \n\n\n  \n    \n  \nDelivered as part of the Tees-Swale: Naturally Connected programme. Tees-Swale is funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and led by the North Pennines National Landscape team in collaboration with the Yorkshire Dales National Park. \n

DESCRIPTION:This autumn we are looking for volunteers to help with plug planting on farms across Teesdale. \nPlug planting helps to increase biodiversity\, creates habitats for pollinators and conserves threatened wildflower species in hay meadows. \nWe will be plug planting at several locations across Teesdale throughout the autumn. \nPlug planting dates: \n\n23 September\, 10:00 – 15:30\n9 October\, 10:00 – 15:30\n17 October\, 10:00 – 15:30\n22 October\, 10:00 – 15:30\n29 October\, 10:00 – 13:00 (followed by Bowlees Nursery drop in)\n6 November\, 10:00 – 15:30\n27 November\, 10:00 – 15:30\n3 December\, 10:00-15:30\n\nAll training and equipment will be provided \nA general level of fitness is required\, please wear outdoor clothing and sturdy shoes. Each evening there will be an invited speaker with the opportunity of discussion afterwards. \nAt the final talk of the series\, on Wednesday 26 November\, Andrew Hyslop\, Raby Estates Head Gamekeeper will be discussing his upbringing on a hill farm in Weardale\, where a childhood surrounded by wildlife and time spent with local gamekeepers sparked a lifelong passion. He will discuss why Teesdale is such a special place to work and what a typical year looks like managing a moor. \nThe talk will highlight the parallels between farming and gamekeeping\, as well as the vital conservation and public education work carried out by gamekeepers. \nEveryone welcome\, booking required.
