Helicopters used to restore nature in the North Pennines National Landscape
The North Pennines National Landscape team use helicopters during the winter months to transport materials to restore peatland.
Tonnes of materials are transported by helicopter instead of overland to ensure there is no impact on the sensitive habitats. The items airlifted include stone, timber, and other materials for building dams that slow the flow of water and plants to revegetate bare areas of ground.
Using helicopters is significantly outweighed by the long-term benefits of peatland restoration. Watch our short video below.
