This 18 mile (29km) circular mountain biking route is 30% off-road and enjoys 912m of ascent. You’ll travel through a landscape rich with echoes of the area’s lead mining past. Passing through the small town of Alston and the villages of Nenthead and Garrigill, as well as over the high moors, it’s a route of contrasts.
Start location: Starts and finishes at Nenthead Mines car park (NY 781 436 / CA9 3NR – nearest).
Terrain: Boggy ground, off-road sections, on-road sections, steep sections.
There is car parking, public transport, a playground, a pub, a shop and toilets nearby.
