SUMMARY:Introduction to QGIS workshop
DESCRIPTION:Help us map historic sites by learning how to use this digital mapping software\, QGIS (Quantum Geographic Information System). This can be used to look at how many historic sites we have in a particular area of the North Pennines\, where they are located\, and give insight into how the sites were used. \nThe QGIS workshop is on Thursday 4 December 10am to 4pm\, at High Forest Community Centre\, Sinderhope. \nQGIS is a free digital mapping software that is commonly used in archaeology and heritage management. The programme can be used to gather\, store and visualise data. You will also receive a copy of our QGIS manual that you can keep and use as you continue using the programme. \nPlease note\, all attendees need to be over the age of 18 and will need to bring along their own laptop in order to be able to join the workshop. \nPlease sign up using the volunteer system Better Impact. \n

SUMMARY:Farming and nature talk: gamekeepers love the uplands
DESCRIPTION:Please note: this date has changed from 5 November\nThis winter we are holding a series of evening talks with the theme of examining the links between farming and nature. The talks\, held at The Moorcock Inn in Eggleston\, 7.30pm to 9pm\, are open to farmers and landowners as well as members of the public. Each evening there will be an invited speaker with the opportunity of discussion afterwards. \nAt the final talk of the series\, on Wednesday 26 November\, Andrew Hyslop\, Raby Estates Head Gamekeeper will be discussing his upbringing on a hill farm in Weardale\, where a childhood surrounded by wildlife and time spent with local gamekeepers sparked a lifelong passion. He will discuss why Teesdale is such a special place to work and what a typical year looks like managing a moor. \nThe talk will highlight the parallels between farming and gamekeeping\, as well as the vital conservation and public education work carried out by gamekeepers. \nEveryone welcome\, booking required. If you are a Tees-Swale farmer you can come to this talk for free\, please email molly@northpennines.org.uk to get the code. \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n  \n   \n  \nDelivered as part of the Tees-Swale: Naturally Connected programme. SUMMARY:Farming and nature talk: regenerating the uplands
DESCRIPTION:This winter we are holding a series of evening talks with the theme of examining the links between farming and nature. The talks\, held at The Moorcock Inn in Eggleston\, 7.30pm to 9pm\, are open to farmers and landowners as well as members of the public. Each evening there will be an invited speaker with the opportunity of discussion afterwards. The first talk is Wednesday 15 October. \nAt the first talk\, Dan Herdman will give us an overview of his experiences of nature-friendly farming\, and how he has altered his farming practices over the last seven years towards a more ‘regenerative system’. Dan is a farmer from Acton Farm in Blanchland within the North Pennines National Landscape. \nThe first talk of the season will be slightly shorter as we will be holding the High Nature Value (HNV) awards ceremony after Dan’s talk. Professor Sir John Lawton will be presenting the winners of the High Nature Value (HNV) farming awards. \nDelivered as part of the Tees-Swale: naturally connected programme. Tees-Swale is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and led by the North Pennines National Landscape in collaboration with the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
