What we do

Revegetation

Revegetation

To encourage and speed up revegetation we use:

  • plug plants – these are cottongrass and are sourced from a local supplier. The species are typically, Eriophorum angustifolium and Eriophorum vaginatum. Field officers will identify places for planting, which include areas spread with moss-rich plant material and those with bare peat. Planting density is site specific but the team normally plants one plug plant every two square metres.
  • a seed mix of moorland species typically found in the surrounding area. The species include: wavy-hair grass , sheep’s fescue, red fescue and common bent.
  • fertiliser and lime – added in very small quantities to improve the soil conditions. This will give the vegetation a temporary boost but will not damage the surrounding bog vegetation.
