A free online training event for tourism businesses and community groups in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). This event will take place on 14 March between 10:30am – 2:30pm. (There will be a break for lunch between 1pm -1:30pm). The shorter session after lunch is an optional informal space to talk and reflect together on the training.

This workshop is aimed at improving the experience of disabled visitors to the area. We hope to support you to make proactive changes and to better handle unexpected situations when they arise.
Most of our buildings are old and there are limitations on what can be done to make them physically more accessible. Yet ‘accessibility’ is so much more than lifts and ramps. For example, 80% of disabled people have a hidden disability.

In this online workshop, led by disabled trainers from Difference Northeast, we will explore:
– The different kinds of barriers that might be putting disabled visitors off
– Media/mainstream attitudes to disabled people and how these might influence how we try to interact
– How to offer help and when not to
– Types of information to share to give people a clearer sense of what to expect.

Please contact scarlet@northpenninesaonb.org.uk if you have any queries.
