Join local resident, historian and poet, Tom Speight, in a 45 minute illustrated talk sharing an 111-year-old story of how and why the reservoir was built, who built it - and at what cost.
Andromeda is the nearest galaxy to the Milky Way. It was first noticed in ancient times as a faint smudge in the sky and that’s how it looks when you see it from the dark skies of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and UNESCO Global Geopark. In this talk, science educator and astronomer, Andy Gray will be explaining how you can see and photograph the Andromeda Galaxy and how it compares to our home galaxy. He’ll also wonder about the chances of alien life watching us from there.
This evening talk will be presented by Dr Martin Kitching, from Astroventures and Northern Experience Wildlife Tours, will explore the Northern Lights – what they are and how to see them.
This Zoom talk will be led by North Pennines-based astrophotographer and astronomer Gary Lintern. We'll be looking at how to get the best from your camera when shooting in the dark.
