Peatland Support Officer

We are seeking to fill a Peatland Support Officer position to support the North Pennines National Landscape’s peatland work. This opportunity is ideal for candidates looking to make meaningful impact on peatlands in the North Pennines National Landscape until 31 March 2027.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?

You will work on the North Pennines National Landscape’s Peatland Programme in a supportive role to the Field Officer. You will be able negotiate with landowners, keepers and agents access for restoration work. You will survey and develop specifications for peatland restoration contracts and supervise and manage peatland restoration contractors.

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You should be educated to degree level in a nature conservation or a related field or equivalent.

You will have experience of working with landowners, farmers and/or gamekeepers together with experience of organising volunteer events.

Bursary opportunity with Heritage Consolidation as part of the Land of Lead and Silver contract

Are you looking for a unique opportunity to work in the heritage building sector? The North Pennines National Landscape team has secured funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of its Land of Lead and Silver project to provide a bursary opportunity in order to address the skills shortage in the built heritage sector.

This would be a 12 month placement working with Heritage Consolidation Ltd with the potential for employment beyond the bursary for the right candidate. You will be undertaking stone masonry, fixing and using lime mortars to repair and consolidate structures around the North of England.

The right candidate will have:
• Some relevant building experience
• A strong aptitude to craftmanship
• A passion to make a difference to heritage
• Safe working practices
• A full driving licence
• Access to a vehicle to be able to drive to the yard (Greenhead Cumbria, CA8 7JQ)

Monthly bursary payment: £15 per hour
Working hours: 40 hours a week plus extra hours when needed
Term: 12 months
