Weardale Museum

Weardale Museum

This highly-commended volunteer-run MLA accredited museum is packed with fascinating new displays and stories of Weardale’s heritage including a hands-on lead miner’s kitchen and The Weardale Tapestry, a beautiful 16ft free-style embroidery depicting Weardale’s history.

Historic chapel

Adjoining the museum is the historic High House Chapel. Built in 1760, it is the oldest Methodist Chapel to have held continuous weekly services. The museum tells the story of Wesley’s many visits to Ireshopeburn and provides access to the Chapel during Museum hours.

Family history

The Museum also holds a vast Weardale genealogy resource – ring first to avoid disappointment.

Free admission for children, small charge for adults.
