Wildlife groups
Wildfire groups are partnerships of public, private and voluntary organisations that work together on a range of wildfire-related activities. They contribute towards sustainable rural development through minimising the risk of wildfires.
Work of the wildfire groups
A wildfire group works to prevent wildfire through active collaboration.
Wildfire groups undertake a range of activities aimed at:
- Reduction– reducing the incidence of wildfires through awareness, education, and the advocacy of safe land management practices.
- Readiness– planning, training, equipment sharing and fire plans.
- Response– fostering effective multi-agency working relationships to utilise available resources and expertise when responding to wildfire incidents.
Wildlife group partners
Wildfire groups are made up of a number of different agencies and organisations. They vary according to local circumstances but typically include representatives from the fire and rescue services, county councils, National Park Authorities, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Partnerships, Forestry Commission, Ministry of Defence, Natural England, private estates, The Moorland Association, Country Land and Business Association, the National Gamekeepers Organisation, the National Trust and utilities companies.
Wildfire groups covering the North Pennines
There are three wildfire groups (Northumberland, County Durham and Cumbria) operating across the North Pennines area. Information regarding the groups and their activities can be obtained from their websites.
