What we do
Responsible tourism
Tourism in the North Pennines is based on the area’s natural assets or special qualities, qualities which also lie at the heart of quality of life for local people.
The North Pennines National Landscape team works in a variety of ways with tourism organisations, businesses and communities to promote sustainable tourism – tourism which takes into account the needs of the environment, local residents, businesses and visitors – both now and in the future.
Annual Tourism Forum
The 2023 North Pennines Tourism Forum was held on 29 November in Kirkoswald Church Institute, Penrith, Cumbria. This year we are shining a spotlight on the North Pennines National Landscape’s Fellfoot Forward Landscape Partnership Scheme.

Tourism Toolkit
To help businesses, community groups, individuals, and charities to gain benefit from being located in/operating in the North Pennines National Landscape & UNESCO Global Geopark, the North Pennines National Landscape team has produced a Tourism Toolkit. Signing up to the toolkit allows access to a series of resources, including: seven North Pennines Locator Logos; copyright free images; example marketing copy; and social media channel lists.
It is free to sign up to and will be regularly updated with new resources to help your communications, PR and marketing. More information and sign up here.
Tourism Working Group
The responsible tourism work of the North Pennines National Landscape team is guided by its Tourism Working Group. The group meets three times a year and is chaired by Pauline Elliott/Ian Baker – owners and managers of Ninebanks Youth Hostel.
