Celebrating spring

Spring Celebration family-friendly event
We recently celebrated all things spring, with a family-friendly event at Low Birk Hatt Farm, the former home of Hannah Hauxwell the famous daleswoman.
The families really enjoyed toasting marshmallows, whittling a sheep, lino printing, campfire singing and meeting animals. It was great to see so many people celebrate spring together.
What people said about spring celebration
“I’ve only been on my phone for 18 minutes today and that was before the journey here! Its been so much fun I haven’t even thought about it!”
“For me, the offering of all-age activities, and all the informative and engaging displays gave such a warm welcome. There was a visible ‘unwinding’ from when we arrived to when we left.”
“The smile on everyone’s faces as they carried their carved sheep out of the woodland was unforgettable!”
“Many people don’t realise what you can do in the countryside, apart from walking to the top of a hill. This event has given the opportunity to be immersed in the different layers of things you can do. Learning about wool and farming. Being able to use art to express how you are experiencing nature. It has encouraged me to really take in what I’m seeing”
“I really loved the singing, I don’t usually sing. The whole event was brilliant, so many lovely people coming to bring their super skills.”
“I enjoyed getting together with other members of the community and doing these activities together. Probably what people used to do in the past. Crafting and sitting around the fire. It’s reminding us how communities should be, that’s something that has been lost. I really enjoyed making the sheep and doing the lino printing. Such a nice mix of activities”
“I really enjoyed the lino printing, it was so relaxing. I’m not an artist but I really enjoyed that. It was great having time slots for the organised workshops and the drop in activities round the fire. The food was great and it was nice doing something outside and doing some activities with some slight risk involved, like using tools and toasting a marshmallow.”
This event was put on as part of the Tees-Swale: naturally programme, funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, thanks to National Lottery players.
