Teesdale through three artists’ eyes – February 2026

The first exhibition of 2026 at Bowlees Visitor Centre is ‘Teesdale through three artists’ eyes.’ A shared exhibition by artists Elaine Vizor, Kath Allinson and June Wainwright. Each artist has their individual way of revealing how they see Teesdale. The exhibition showcases a variety of pencil drawings, paintings in watercolour and acrylics, and photography.

Elaine’s work is cyanotype prints in different forms – alternative photography coupled with conventional digital photography.
Elaine said: ” I am a photographer who paints with light. I work with and without a camera, harnessing natural light and often ‘found objects’ to produce unique images. Through the mediums of digital photography, cameraless Cyanotype printing, and a combination of both, my work in this exhibition celebrates aspects of Teesdale.”

Kath Allinson’s work is reflecting the people and the fauna and flora of the North Pennines. She is a self-taught artist living locally, who normally works with pastels but for this exhibition Kath wanted to challenge herself using watercolours and pencil.
Kath said: ” I live locally and see the people who work, promote, protect and leave a legacy for this beautiful landscape. I hope visitors will enjoy this rich collection of complementary artworks celebrating Teesdale and be inspired to explore the area and its culture further.

June’s contribution to the shared exhibition is acrylic paintings on canvas and framed watercolour pictures.
June said: “My work reflects the lives and landscapes of the North Pennines where I live and work. I paint in acrylics and watercolours with initial pencil or watercolour sketches being made in situ and then completed in my studio.”

Jane Hayes, Communication Assistant at the North Pennines National Landscape, said: “This exhibition from three artists and friends explores and expresses different aspects of Teesdale. While their work is individual and distinctive, together it becomes a collaborative celebration of the lives, landscape and nature of the North Pennines.”

The exhibition is on show from 10am to 4pm at Bowlees Visitor Centre, from 21 February to 30 April. Please check the website for opening times and note that although the main visitor centre area is accessible, the gallery space is accessed via stairs. Original artwork, fridge magnets and keyrings will be on sale as part of the exhibition.
