Join us for an outdoor workshop at Nenthead Mines on 30 August 10am to 2pm to discover secrets of the mining landscape through drawing.

With guidance and demonstrations from North Pennine artist, Lionel Playford, we will explore ways of sketching not just the appearance of this heritage landscape with its fascinating history but something of the spirit of the place as it feels to each of us. A member of staff from the North Pennines AONB Partnership will be joining us to answer questions about what we are drawing; the lead mining history and to help us picture working life when the quarry and mines were operating.

Following the sketching portion of the workshop we will have an indoor discussion about the experience with free refreshments.

Please bring your own drawing materials if you wish, but we will also bring a supply of sketchbooks, graphite, charcoal and watercolour pencils for you to use.

The workshop is suitable for ages 8+; children must be accompanied by an adult.
