This winter we are holding a series of evening talks with the theme of examining the links between farming and nature. The talks, held at The Moorcock Inn in Eggleston, 7.30pm to 9pm, are open to farmers and landowners as well as members of the public. Each evening there will be an invited speaker with the opportunity of discussion afterwards.
15 October, Dan Herdman, Regenerating the Uplands
5 November, Andrew Hyslop, Gamekeepers love the uplands
26 November, John O’Reilly, Why are rare plants rare
At the second talk of the series, on Wednesday 5 November, Andrew Hyslop, Raby Estates head gamekeeper will be discussing his upbringing on a hill farm in Weardale, where a childhood surrounded by wildlife and time spent with local gamekeepers sparked a lifelong passion. He will discuss why Teesdale is such a special place to work and what a typical year looks like managing a moor.
The talk will highlight the parallels between farming and gamekeeping, as well as the vital conservation and public education work carried out by gamekeepers.
Everyone welcome, booking required. If you are a local farmer, or volunteer with the North Pennines National Landscape team you can come to this talk for free, please email molly@northpennines.org.uk to get the code.
Delivered as part of the Tees-Swale: Naturally Connected programme. Tees-Swale is funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and led by the North Pennines National Landscape team in collaboration with the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
