New illustrated map of UNESCO places in the UK

The North Pennines UNESCO Global Geopark is among 62 UNESCO-designated places featured on an updated illustrated map showcasing some of the UK’s most remarkable destinations to explore this summer.

Published by the UK National Commission for UNESCO, the free map brings together the UK’s World Heritage Sites, Creative Cities, Global Geoparks and Biosphere Reserves in one place. Designed to inspire day trips, staycations and new discoveries, it highlights internationally recognised destinations across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Among them is the North Pennines UNESCO Global Geopark, a landscape of internationally important geology, dramatic upland scenery, waterfalls, rich mining heritage and vibrant communities. Stretching across County Durham, Cumbria and Northumberland, the Geopark offers visitors the chance to explore millions of years of Earth history while enjoying some of England’s most spectacular countryside.

The map also features destinations including the Slate Landscape of Northwest Wales, Scotland’s Flow Country, the English Lake District, Giant’s Causeway, Stonehenge and the Heart of Neolithic Orkney, alongside UNESCO Creative Cities such as Manchester, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Glasgow and Aberystwyth.

Use the map to plan a day out, a longer journey or a summer staycation, and to discover remarkable places that may be closer to home than expected. Many are free to visit and accessible by public transport.
