Widdybank Fell invertebrate site

Widdybank Fell Special Invertebrate Site

Widdybank Fell supports a unique range of upland invertebrates on habitats including heather moorland, peat bogs, river shingle and sugar limestone grassland.

Seasonal highlights

While exposed and located at high altitude, invertebrates can be found here from spring, with stunning emperor moths and moss carder bee queens. During summer, look out for variable hieroglyphic ladybirds among the heather, along on with colourful broom moth caterpillars and bog hoverflies. Thistles are home to delicate spear thistle lace bugs and provide shelter for red-legged St Mark’s flies.
