Past peatland projects

The North Pennines National Landscape team has worked collaboratively with a variety of partner organisations on peatland projects.

These include the Pennine PeatLIFE project, which invested €6.5 million into peatland restoration in the North Pennines, Yorkshire Dales and Forest of Bowland. Over 1,700 hectares of blanket bog was restored. Carbon Connects involved 16 project partners across North Western Europe to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and improve carbon sequestration of damaged peatlands. Through Raising the Standard , the popular Alfred Wainwright’s Coast to Coast walking route was improved and peatland erosion was limited.
