Peatland restoration process
The North Pennines National Landscape team follows five basic steps to restore damaged peatland. These steps have been modified and designed after researching similar successful peatland restoration projects in the UK.
There are five basic steps to restoration:
1) Hydrology : preventing erosion from water
2) Slopes : the levelling of steep slopes and hagg edges
3) Stabilisation : stabilise the damaged peat with moss-rich nurse crop
4) Revegetation : encouraging and promoting vegetation growth
