Land of Lead and Silver – Community arts programme opportunitites

The North Pennines AONB Partnership is currently in the development phase of a new project funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Historic England. The project, named Land of Lead and Silver, is focusing on the lead mining heritage across the North Pennines.

We are seeking proposals from individual artists or groups of artists for community arts projects which will seek to engage new audiences in the lead mining heritage of the North Pennines. The funding available for each project is £2,000. Three projects will be undertaken in 2023 and each will need to be completed by 30th June 2023. The deadline for applications is Friday 31st March 2023 at 5.00pm.

Artist’s Brief

The mission of the community arts projects is to engage new audiences in the lead mining heritage of the North Pennines through a variety of activities and workshops. Artists are invited to put forward proposals that play to their strengths and preferences for engaging with local community audiences.

The Land of Lead and Silver has a number of key audiences that we would like to engage with in 2023, including families, young farmers, and underserved young people, both rurally &/or economically. Across the age groups, we are interested in working with women’s institutes, farmers, naturalists, walking groups, local historians, and people with artisan or heritage skills.

Your proposal should include:

An outline of the activities you are offering, including an evening activity, and how the activities link to the lead and silver mining heritage of the area.
An indication of the group/community this is suitable for.
A brief outline budget.
The timescale involved – when the activities might start and finish. Please note: All sessions and evaluation must take place before 30th June 2023.
