What we do
Trees and woodlands
The North Pennines National Landscape team works with landowners and land managers across the National Landscape and beyond to improve the area of woodland cover, by creating new woodland and managing existing woodlands.
Woodland habitat is desirable for wildlife, recreation and timber production. It is also increasingly being recognised that woodlands offer environmental services such as flood reduction downstream and they store carbon which helps in the fight against climate change.
The North Pennines National Landscape team can:
- offer support with applications for new woodland planting
- write plans for existing woodlands
- advise on the range of grants available and how they may best apply to your objectives and requirements
The North Pennines National Landscape team is providing this support through a new three-year project, the Heart of the Pennines Forest, funded through Defra’s Trees Call to Action Fund, administered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Working with partners at Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust and supported by Forestry Commission and Woodland Trust, the project is focusing on the right kinds of tree cover to fit the landscape. See our map of the area being covered through the project.
