Come along to Alston Town Hall to immerse yourself in the world of Edwardian eccentric, Caldwell Harpur. Meet other volunteers working on decoding the secret diaries he kept in his self-invented language of “Lennish” and discover photographs of the people and places Caldwell mentions in his diaries and letters from Nenthead.
Caldwell was a dabbler in mysticism, a lifelong vegetarian, a science fiction author, and an avid book collector. He also wrote compulsively, corresponding with everyone from close family to Russian radicals, spiritualist mediums, and science fiction author, H.G. Wells.
