An opportunity to stroll around Nenthead Mines when it is dark on 25 October, 7pm to 9pm. This atmospheric walk offers a rare opportunity to explore a historic mine site after dark, safely guided by a professional who knows the area inside and out.
The area is known for its outstanding stargazing potential—and a chance to reflect on what it might have felt like for miners long ago making their way home after a shift, surrounded by silence and starlight.
All ages are welcome (children must be accompanied by an adult and must be able to walk or be carried – paths may not be suitable for pushchairs). Please bring a torch and dress warmly. Well-behaved dogs on a short lead are welcome.
The walk will cover approximately 3 miles, mostly on flat ground, with breaks along the way. Final details of the route may change, so please check back closer to the event for updates.
Optional donation of £3. Your donation enables the North Pennines National Landscape team to protect and restore this special place and help people connect with nature.
