Exhibition at Bowlees Visitor Centre: Near and far – natural beauty in the North Pennines
Near and far – natural beauty in the North Pennines exhibition
August 2024
A photographic exhibition by Martin Rogers will be on show during the month of August at Bowlees Visitor Centre. Martin’s photography is rooted in his local patch of the North Pennines National Landscape. He has lived in Upper Teesdale since 2010 and, spends a great deal of time throughout the year travelling in the area capturing wildlife and landscapes. The exhibition focuses on wildlife and landscapes, from wide vistas (‘far’) to macro close-ups (‘near’).
Martin said: “My aim is to produce images that show the true, and natural, beauty or interest of my subjects; how things actually look. I am generally not interested in special effects and exaggerated colours, but I do look out for unusual angles or perspectives, or subjects, and I do re-visit subjects to try and capture them at their best.”
“I try and capture subjects that may be overlooked, and I would like to think that my pictures encourage people to be more aware of our surroundings – from tiny plants to the wonderful open landscape, and the features to be found in it.”
The images chosen for the exhibition reflect the colours, textures and views found in the North Pennines National Landscape.
Simon Wilson, Programme Manager at the North Pennines National Landscape team, said: “We are always pleased to have opportunities to showcase local artists, especially those who take their inspiration from what they see around them in the amazing landscape of the North Pennines”.
Martin said: “I hope that people who visit Bowlees Visitor Centre and my exhibition, will see pictures of places and things that they may not have been aware of previously. But, most of all, I hope that they enjoy looking at my work as much as I enjoy doing it
The Near and far – natural beauty in the North Pennines exhibition, is on show at Bowlees Visitor Centre, in the gallery accessed via stairs, until 30 August, open daily from 10am to 5pm.
